"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood." ~ Acts 20:28
If you're a Christian, or preacher, pastor, or church lay leader reading this post, you're probably wondering how can anyone especially a mere human teach you about preaching the gospel to this modern slew of spectators, pessimists, on lookers, or even modern day Christians. Well, this is actually a topic worth discussing just as much if not more than the current state of affairs in the United States of America and the surrounding countries of the modern world.
It is abundantly clear that the modern preacher seems to have forgotten that Jesus Christ already did the work. Yes, he left His Spirit here on earth to finish the work of His Father who sent him to earth to press the grain, purposefully glean the fields and bring in a mighty harvest for the kingdom of Heaven. There is nothing new that any preacher can or will ever endeavor to do, that is unprecedented, no matter what technological advance we now have access to, in order to present God's word to His people. God is the same God, yesterday, and forever. For, this is the world he created, for His purpose, His people all for His glory.
Sadly, the modern day preacher has since become filled with pride, and gone astray as they try to keep up with attendance stats, their business budget, the example of past, and present prosperity preachers who seek to exalt self, flaunt their false deity, their worldly possessions and vile ambitions. The modern day preacher, is perplexed and struggles to utilize pure doctrine as they make it a habit to compromise and only use God's words to justify their sin, all while God's people are left broken, extremely damaged, confused, and angry at the so called leaders who vowed to support, and help them through their darkest hours. As a result, people have now become weary and tired of all of the lies, false teachings, propagandas, and exaltation of it's so called leaders and men and women of the cloth.
Simply put God's people, followers, believers, and the like were called to do one thing: " Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway [even] unto the end of the world. Amen." ~Matt. 28:19-20
Notice thou, how Jesus spoke vehemently when he says, "...All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth." ~ verse 18 (Matt. 28). You see, this is how preachers of any era, after Christ are to speak in relation to God's words, knowing fully well, the nature, intent, purpose and privilege it is to declare the will of God for all of mankind. For it is not with human wisdom, accolades, power and persuasion that the gospel must and should be preached but with all power given unto the messenger, in heaven and in earth.
Quite frankly, most preachers today, blatantly preach out of their own will, human reasoning, and agendas, so that people may side with them, support their initiatives and hence, totally disregard the word of God, which is the only cure for man's sin, for all the ages. You can listen for yourselves, if you are honest, you will sense the absence of God's Holy Spirit, hence, no wonder the churches are still filled with sick people, with all kinds of ailments, torment, vein babbling and gnashing of teeth. In essence, the people prefer the wisdom of man, as opposed to the divine wisdom of God, which also brings them under subjection and correction. Moreover, like children who want their own way, the people rebel, and resist the correction of God. So, now you know why our society is in the condition it is in, so please stop pointing the finger at other preachers that you always compare yourself to, and start taking responsibility for how you run your own household, past, or present, and how you manage your business affairs, oh, I meant church affairs.
Christ's word is simple and clear, that even a child can understand. Don't forget that Christ spoke with children and they in return answered in full understanding of his teachings. He also sat with sinners, and reached them in a way that no one else did. Yes, he reached them, but didn't compromise, and avoided certain questions, and allowed only certain dialogue, like how modern preachers do it. For Christ embodied the pure essence of the Bible, for it is said in the gospel of John verses 1, and 14, " In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God..... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
Simply put, Christ's example is the only one we should emulate in our homes, and in our churches. There is no other model that works better no matter the age, method, or circumstance. "Heaven and earth shall pass way, but my words shall not pass away." ~ Matthew 24:35
So you ask, "How To Preach and Teach Like Jesus in the Modern Era?" Do it like this, "Preach the word, be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine." ~ 2 Timothy 4:2 In other words, don't be a hypocrite. Preach with truth, power, and divine wisdom, at all times! Remember, you are God's representative throughout all of the world.
Allow me to offer a recourse: Empty yourself of all earthly ambitions, desires, and care; for you were called to a higher calling. This world is passing quickly. Be careful not to be used by the enemy in his grand schemes. Pray often and daily, like Daniel did, and the three Hebrew servants in exile, so that God will be merciful upon you and deliver you from grave danger that is coming. Release yourself from this earthly regime and trust God to elevate you like He did Joseph, so that your people will be saved. Do not depend on the payment, or retainers that are being offered to you this very minute, rather reprove and rebuke the enemy like Jesus did, in His moment of temptation when He was very hungry and weak. Rather trust God like Christ did to sustain Him and lift Him higher, way above the earth, and any mountain that God made, for "Whom the Son set free is free indeed." ~ John 8:36
" Then said Jesus unto his disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." ~ Matthew 16:24
